What I hate about Expression Web™
Microsoft has come out with a newer version of their web
editing program called Expression Web. It is not an upgrade from FrontPage
but if anything a knock off from Dreamweaver. So now we have Version 4 -
the first three were useless. I hate to say it, but the newest isn't any
better.
What do I hate about it? A lot. While
the CSS freaks will say this is the greatest thing since Dreamweaver, Expression
lost a lot of simplicity from moving away from Front Page. Normal users
will have a struggle with it as one can tell in the newsgroups.
First Impression: Who the heck was on
the cheap drugs in designing black/slate backdrop and columns? Doesn't
anyone know colour creates imagination? This is like a DOS window in
reverse. AS well this is not a WYSIWYG program. Phantom fonts
showing up, as shown below with the points.
Second Impressions: 1. Select All
gone. Used to be keyboard control CNTL+A, now, have
to do it via menu. 2. Select various paragraphs to highlight and change
fonts. Used to be Click, then Shift+Click. Nope, have to drag the
mouse. Oh forget about Format Painter, it is hidden from view. 3.
Uploading, or Publishing your files. Click on the file, then use the LEFT
arrow (to upload to remote) and it asks you if you want to Ignore or Overwrite.
Huh?. Well WHY do you think I am publishing to begin with? 4. CSS Hell.
No matter what I do, it keeps adding all these different styles. This is
out of the box. So now I have p.auto-style4 showing up and my style list
in my header is growning the click. 5. Narrow work area. Even with my 24"
iMac I am still squinting to see my work. Can try to reduce the columns on
both sides, but not minimize feature, either on or off. 6. Folder List is
not the same as Site View list. Meaning if you use FILE/IMPORT, you have
to do it with what is clicked on the Folder List not the Site List in the middle
of your screen. 7. Importing. Can't drag and drop from Windows
Explorer, like how Front Page used to do it. 8. Resize and image. Can
only resize with control button/handles along the bottom, not the top corners.
9. After publishing, your Site View demands to refresh itself, so where you
were, down in the M's and such now are off screen again.
10. Oh, move to a new folder on your site and watch Expression go stupid without
listing any files, or "not responding" as shown below.

All this on the first week I've owned the product.
*blink* Wait a second, who just changed my font again? Dang, styles again
out of no where.
