What does one TRILLION dollars look like?

All this talk about "stimulus packages" and "bailouts".  A billion dollars. A hundred billion dollars or eight hundred billion dollars or now we're hearing we are one to two TRILLION dollars in debt!

So let's start easy with ONE lowly $100 US dollar bill.

one hundred us dollars

A wrapped packet of one hundred $100 bills is less than 1/2" thick and would be $10,000.  Fits in your pocket easily and is more than enough to take my wife Beverley and I on a great vacation if any of you have some kicking around!

10,000 us dollars

What about $1 million dollars? Or 100 packets of $10,000. You can stuff that amount into a laptop bag!

 1 million dollars

While the $1 million above looks small in size, what about $100 million?   It fits neatly on a standard pallet:

 100 million dollars

Ok, what about $1 BILLION dollars? That would be 10 standard wooden pallets worth:

So really,  what would ONE TRILLION dollars look like?

It would be a number followed by 12 zeros.

Million Million or a Thousand Billion.

Are you ready for what a Trillion Dollars looks like?  It's pretty surprising.

Ladies and gentlemen... I give you $1 trillion dollars:

trillion dollars tomax7

(Note: The pallets are double stacked - see the guy near the bottom left corner.)

The area this occupies is just shy of 5 acres, with one hundred dollar bills stacked 6 feet in height.

So the next time you hear someone toss around the phrase "trillion dollars" that's what they're talking about
- and this is just one of them!

Spend wisely eh...
