Office 2007 Notes: Office 2010 to come!

If you have Office 2003 and need to open and minimally work on Office 2007 files, please download and install this compatibility Pack I have linked to Microsoft's site.

If you want a need a free onscreen tutorial on finding where things were in 2003 vs 2007, please watch the items below.  They saved me a half hour of wasted time!

The following can only be seen in Internet Explorer - but Firefox right click and save to your hard drives to view.

What's new in Office 2010?

- No more ORB!  Yahooooo!!!
- Outlook now incorporates the Ribbon
- Orb replaced by FILE tab, albeit more confusing...

Things I'd like to see in Office:

  • PowerPoint incorporate BOTH a landscape and portrait setting in the same slideshow

  • Users rearrange the Quick Access Toolbar by dragging the icons around instead of the retarded way of going into the Options/Customize area. I mean the brain fart of having a horizontal bar being re-arranged by a vertical selection was priceless.

  • Simple way of opening two Excel spreadsheets in separate windows.

  • “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\EXCEL.EXE” /e “%1″ - click for steps to open excel in a separate window

  • Arrange Excel Tabs alpha or numerically without VBscripting.

  • Practice Files:

    What is an Office Application?
Sometimes people confuse the terms and idea of Application with an Operating System (like Windows XP). Simply put Applications sit on top or need an Operating System in order to run.

Examples of Application/Office Suites are: Microsoft Office 2003, 2007 or Office XP, Microsoft Office for Apple, Open Office, Star Office, whereas single Application programs are Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, or Microsoft Outlook Express (which comes with Windows and is like the "little brother" to the fuller version like Microsoft Outlook).

Word Processing – Letter writing. People can make changes such as spelling, margins, additions, deletions, and movement of text

Excel Spreadsheets – Budget spreadsheets. People can store numeric data, add, subtract and manipulate numbers or text that can be used in calculations, address books, or listings in a table format. Plus one can create charts and graphs using the spreadsheet application.

Access Databases - A database can sort the names, addresses, grades, classrooms for students in a school. From this, one can print professional looking reports, whereas in a Spreadsheet, it will only show the raw data.

PowerPoint, Publisher - Create a slide show presentation, or newsletter/brochure, and other similar types of publications. It is similar to word processing one can use text, graphics, lines, shapes, patterns, and borders.
